Antonio Conte wants Harry Kane to sign a new contract at Tottenham

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has admitted that he wants star striker Harry Kane to put pen to paper and sign a new contract at the club.

After an uncertain 2021 where the forward came close to joining Manchester City after pushing for a transfer, the 29-year-old is back to his best and scoring goals for Tottenham.

Under Antonio Conte, Kane has been one of the most-inform Spurs players and carried that form into the current season. His latest outing saw him bag a brace against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a result that saw the north London side move up to third place and remain unbeaten in the league so far this term.

Back in July, a report revealed that neither Kane nor the club were in a haste to sign a new contract, given that his current deal still runs until 2024. It is easy to see that the forward is happier under Antonio Conte than predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo. The Italian has now broken the silence on the player’s future, categorically stating that he wants the player to remain at the club.

Conte states desire for Kane to sign new Tottenham contract
As expected, Harry Kane’s future will always be a question for any Tottenham manager to answer and Conte did not hide his feelings about the player.

He said: “I have to be honest with you: I don’t know, I don’t know about this situation, I don’t know the details, honestly, honestly.

“You know we are talking about an important player for Tottenham. And the desire of everybody into the club is [for Kane] to continue to stay with Tottenham, to sign a new contract.

“But if you ask me about the details, about information, I cannot answer you.”

Kane’s strong start to the Premier League season

Kane has enjoyed a prolific start to the Premier League campaign, with four goals scored after four games. That tally means only Erling Haaland (six) has scored more goals than the Tottenham man at this stage of the season, with his latest brace helping Spurs to a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out.

Tottenham remain two points off early leaders and local rivals Arsenal, alongside Manchester City and Brighton who also have ten points from their opening four games.

Kane has severally spoken about enjoying his football under Antonio Conte and it now appears both parties have a mutual positive relationship as it stands. While Kane has already secured his legendary status at Tottenham, he is yet to win a major trophy in his career and it remains to be seen if that could still tempt him to consider a move elsewhere.
