Newcastle United have completed the signing of Everton winger Anthony Gordon. The former Everton forward joins the Magpies on a long-term deal.
The winter transfer window is about to shut down in a couple of days, and there is a mad scramble among teams to complete their business before the curtains come down. Several players are on the move in some lucrative deals, while it has been arduous for some clubs to get their business over the line.
While Chelsea are busy stacking up signings like it is going out of fashion, Arsenal struggle to conclude deals here and there.
Both clubs are on different sides of the divide, with differing priorities. Arsenal need backups as they are chasing the league title, while Chelsea is building to make it into the top four and challenge for the title next season.
Signing players has not been a problem for Newcastle United. The Magpies have sneaked under the radar to get their targets. The funds are available, and the dream is massive. The only issue is their profile which keeps growing every day. The Toons have signed Anthony Gordon just before deadline day.
Newcastle sign Anthony Gordon
Newcastle are doing well in the Premier League this season. They were bought by Saudi owners last season and are punching above their weight. They are in the top four, behind league leaders Arsenal and Manchester City, but are looking to consolidate their position, as Manchester United and Tottenham are breathing down their necks.
To give their squad depth and brighten their chances of picking a Champions League spot, the Toons have delved into the market for quality players. The latest acquisition for the Magpies is Everton winger Anthony Gordon. They announced the signing of Gordon but did not give details of the fee.
Despite the vagueness of the announcement, reports suggest the England Under-21 winger joins the Magpies for a fee in the region of £40 million.
Reports were linking Gordon to several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham, but Newcastle has now beaten everyone to the punch.
