Ansu Fati is on his way out of Barcelona following a season in which he saw very limited involvement with the senior squad. At 22, the winger has found himself on the fringes of the team throughout the 2024-25 campaign and appears to have accepted that he has no place in Hansi Flick’s tactical setup. With his path to regular minutes blocked, Fati has now given the green light to leave the club this summer.
Barcelona had already made internal decisions to move him on before the end of the season. That intention became public last week, and Fati’s agreement has allowed the situation to accelerate quickly. Discussions regarding his next move have progressed with notable speed, with a clear candidate to sign him already stepping forward.
AS Monaco close to sealing loan deal with purchase option
AS Monaco has emerged as the most serious contender for Fati’s signature. The Ligue 1 club, who faced and beat Barcelona during the Champions League group stage earlier in the season, are reportedly close to finalizing personal terms with the player. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, talks between the two clubs are also underway, focused on shaping the structure of the proposed deal.
The current plan involves a season-long loan for the 2025-26 campaign, during which Monaco would have the option to buy Fati permanently. If that option is triggered, Barcelona would retain a sell-on clause entitling them to a portion of any future transfer fee Monaco receives. The exact percentage of that clause has not yet been disclosed.
While Barcelona had initially hoped to bring in a solid transfer fee through Fati’s departure, the reality is that any immediate financial return from this agreement may be modest. The size of the buy option could still offer potential upside, but it’s not expected to deliver a significant windfall.
