Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway, known for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada and The Dark Knight Rises, has recently surprised fans by revealing her passion for Premier League side Arsenal. The revelation came through TikTok videos where she was seen singing North London Forever, the club’s anthem, suggesting a genuine emotional investment in the Gunners.
It seems that Hathaway isn’t the only supporter in her household. In one clip, she mentioned how her family chat was buzzing with excitement after Arsenal’s recent performance. “Declan is the man of the day,” she quoted her mother, referring to Declan Rice, as she agreed with enthusiasm.
The moment that grabbed public attention was Hathaway’s rendition of the Arsenal anthem following their 3-0 triumph over Real Madrid in the Champions League – a clip that quickly gained traction online.
Evidence of long-term support and growing passion
While it’s not entirely clear when Hathaway first became a fan of Arsenal, her loyalty appears to date back at least a year. In April 2024, during a press interview for her movie The Idea of You, she and co-star Nicholas Galitzine – also a self-declared Arsenal follower – were caught reacting live to a match.
“1-0, Trossard!” Galitzine exclaimed, with Hathaway joining in, followed by her comment: “Oh I love you,” before adding that both were supporting the same side while keeping an eye on the ongoing fixture. The goal in question was Leandro Trossard’s effort against Wolves in Arsenal’s 2-0 away win on 20 April.
Following the viral moment, Trossard reached out with a supportive message, encouraging Hathaway to continue cheering the team and inviting her to visit the Emirates Stadium in the future.
Despite the message and clear enthusiasm, there’s no sign yet that Hathaway has attended a game at Arsenal’s ground. Prior to the moment in that April interview, her connection to the club hadn’t been widely known or documented. Still, her interest seems to have grown significantly during Arsenal’s recent Champions League campaign.
This month, she posted a photo wearing an Arsenal jersey on Instagram to mark Bukayo Saka’s return from injury, captioning it: “Welcome back #7” after a 2-1 victory against Fulham – another sign of her growing engagement with the club.
Other film stars with a football passion
Anne Hathaway joins a number of Hollywood names who support English football clubs. Russell Crowe, star of Gladiator, is a devoted Leeds United fan and also owns a share of the club. He once explained that as a child in the 1970s, Match of the Day played a role in shaping his support, since Leeds were regularly featured on TV at the time.
Tom Hanks, another renowned actor, backs Aston Villa and has been spotted attending their games. Meanwhile, Catherine Zeta-Jones is known for supporting her local team, Swansea City. In 2015, she famously celebrated a victory over Manchester United by filling her swimming pool with swans at her New York residence.
