Ange Postecoglou disappointed after Spurs fail to win Leicester City

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was upset that despite controlling the majority of the match at the King Power on Monday night, the north London side were unable to put their Premier League opening game against Leicester to bed.

Spurs were superior in all contests against the Foxes last night, dominating the play but lacking a cutting edge in front of goal.

They were undoubtedly the better team in Leicestershire, controlling 71% of the play in possession, completing almost 600 passes, and attempting 15 shots of which seven were on target, but we were unable to snatch that winning ball past the Foxes low block.

Pedro Porro had given spurs the well-earned lead in the 28th minute, but the team was unable to take advantage of the increased momentum. Twelve (12) minutes into the second half, Jamie Vardy scored the equaliser for the home team against the run of play.

Despite several efforts to grab the win, Spurs were unable to find the winning goal, frustrating both Ange and the players.

Ange disappointed after Spurs fail to win Leicester City

“The outcome is the most important thing and that is the disappointing thing – the result,” Ange reflected. “We played well enough, we dominated the first half, we were just wasteful in front of goal and the same in the second half.”

“We started really well, had some great opportunities, didn’t take them and then you’re always allowing the opposition back into the game and they scored and then we lost our way for about 15, 20 minutes. We looked a bit tired but again we finished strong just without that clinical front third.”

“There’s no doubting that the performance warranted us having more than a 1-0 lead. Again, if you don’t take those chances, you are allowing the opposition into the game. It’s disappointing.”

“We finished strong but lacked some cutting edge in the front third and for us it’s really important that we try and address that as quickly as possible because it’s one thing being dominant in your performance but you have to reflect that in the end result.”

Tottenham and Ange will now be looking to claim their first win of the season when they host Everton at the weekend in one of the afternoon fixtures on Saturday. Spurs will fancy their chances of claiming their first three points of the season against an Everton side that lost 3-0 to Brighton in their opening fixture.
