Amorim insists Manchester United remain a top destination

Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United continues to be an appealing option for new signings, despite their struggles this season. The Portuguese coach, who took charge in November, said he already has a clear vision for how he wants the team to look for the next campaign.

Currently 14th in the Premier League, United are on course for their worst finish since their relegation in 1973-74. Amorim is expected to make significant changes to the squad in the summer.

The Red Devils are tracking Wolves’ Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha and have been linked with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. Delap has a £30 million release clause, which is likely to spark interest from multiple clubs.

Planning for major squad changes

United’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League depend on winning the Europa League. If they fail, it could mark just their second season without European competition since English teams were reinstated in 1990 after the Heysel disaster.

Despite their difficulties, Amorim remains confident about the club’s stature. “It’s Manchester United,” he said. “Every player wants to join Manchester United. Even though there are difficulties, including the change of coach, players can see the clear direction we are taking.”

Amorim did not directly address the club’s reported pursuit of Cunha, who has a £62.5 million buyout clause and is believed to be open to a transfer to Old Trafford.

Early preparations for next season

The former Sporting CP manager pointed to Casemiro as an example of a player who has reconsidered his future with the team. The Brazil international, now 33, has another year on his contract and recently expressed his wish to stay at the club.

Amorim confirmed that discussions regarding the squad are underway but said final decisions would be made once the season concludes. “We want to move quickly, and we already have a plan,” he said. “However, things can still change.”
