Alisson backs Liverpool as they complete goalkeeper signing

Liverpool have finally completed a signing in the 2024/25 summer transfer window even though there will be no new additions to their squad this season.

The Reds have not managed to attract a single player for Arne Slot to work with in his first season although the Dutchman has shown that there are no issues with the current squad of players that Jürgen Klopp bequeathed to him. However, he will take solace in the fact that he will be working with a new goalkeeper from next season after their capture of Georgian shotstopper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

The 23-year-old has been one of the brightest lights in LaLiga for the past two seasons and shone on the brightest stage in Germany, where his nation, Georgia, made their first ever international tournament appearance as participants in the 2024 UEFA European Championships.

He will now call himself a Red after completing his medical and putting pen to paper on a six-year contract which will earn Valencia £30 million in transfer fees. However, he will remain a Bat for the meantime as the deal includes a clause to remain in Spain with Valencia on loan for the season.

This will give him the opportunity to say goodbye properly to the fans of the Spanish club that have given him lots of love and support as he usurped veteran goalkeeper Jaume Doménech two seasons ago to be their number 1.

Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson, is happy with the move, having been told about it by Liverpool before contacts were initiated and after the deal was agreed. Alisson is happy that the club is planning for the future but also insists he can go on for a few more years with reports Indicating that he and the club are working out the kinks of a new, short-term deal.

Speaking to the media as the buzz surrounding Liverpool’s Mamardashvili move erupted on social media, the Brazilian said: “I think the club needs to prepare for the future. We are not going to last forever here, I am getting old!”

“No, for a goalkeeper I am still young, I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can.”

“I think it was a good idea, I knew about that (Mamardashvili) before it came out on social media and that is a good message for me because the club cares about what I think.”
