Alexander Isak reflects on Liverpool move after Sweden defeat

Alexander Isak has spoken for the first time since his switch from Newcastle United to Liverpool, a move that cost the Merseyside club £125m and broke the British transfer record.

The forward admitted that “not everyone has the full picture” when asked about the circumstances around his departure. He added that it was not something he wanted to expand on immediately but stressed he was pleased to now be part of Liverpool.

Isak’s transfer came after weeks of speculation, with the player opting out of Newcastle’s preseason fixtures and missing the early matches of the campaign.

Debut of the season with Sweden

The 24-year-old came off the bench in Sweden’s 2-0 loss to Kosovo in Pristina on Monday, his first outing since the deal was finalized. He replaced Anthony Elanga with 18 minutes remaining as Sweden trailed by two goals.

During his short time on the pitch, Isak managed three attempts at goal, forcing the keeper into two saves, and received a booking following a clash with defender Fidan Aliti.

Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson explained that Isak had only trained three times with the national squad ahead of the match, which explained his limited involvement. He had remained on the bench in Friday’s 2-2 draw against Slovenia.

Kosovo secure first group points

Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muriqi struck for Kosovo to hand them their first victory in World Cup qualifying Group B.

The match ended with Kosovo reduced to ten players, as Lindon Emerllahu was dismissed in stoppage time for a second yellow card.

Switzerland currently leads the section, with Kosovo moving into second place and Sweden in third after the defeat.
