At MWOS One Community, our mission is rooted in the belief that investing in our people is the most powerful way to build a nation. Today, the international stage validates that belief. We are immensely proud to congratulate the Zimbabwe men’s 4x400m relay team, featuring MWC Sport athletes Leeford Zuze and Gerren Muwishi alongside Dennis Hove and Thandazani Ndhlovu, for securing the nation’s first-ever relay gold medal at the Senior African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
When we formally partnered with MWC Sport to sponsor their athletics club kits, we did so with a clear understanding: an athlete requires more than just raw talent to perform at their peak. They need professional resources, a strong sense of identity, and the unwavering backing of their community.
This historic win proves what happens when corporate social responsibility (CSR) meets unparalleled dedication. By stepping in to provide high-performance gear and essential backing, MWOS One Community aimed to ensure our athletes felt like the world-class contenders they are. Watching them cross the finish line in 3:01.11, surging past traditional athletics powerhouses like Kenya, Morocco, Botswana, and South Africa, proves that when corporate entities provide the right infrastructure, our youth can transform their aspirations into tangible realities.
The road to the top of the podium in Accra was paved with sacrifice, resilience, and months of gruelling travel. The quartet’s journey over the past two and a half months has been nothing short of a fairytale run:
Maseru, Lesotho: Setting the benchmark with a 3:03 run.
Gaborone, Botswana: Shattering the national record, eventually clocking an astonishing 2:59.01 to secure early qualification for next year’s World Championships in Beijing, China.
Accra, Ghana: Overcoming logistical challenges, poor weather conditions, and immense pressure to claim Continental Gold.
As Coach Lisimati rightfully noted, the victory was no accident. It was the result of a brotherhood prepared to sacrifice for their team and their country, even dedicating their victory to their injured teammate, sprinter Methembe Tshuma.
The triumph in Ghana extended beyond the relay, culminating in a historic four-medal haul for Zimbabwe, the nation’s best-ever performance at this level. We proudly celebrate these individual milestones alongside the team victory:
Gold: Men’s 4x400m Relay (Hove, Zuze, Muwishi, Ndhlovu)
Silver: Dennis Hove (Men’s 400m)
Silver: Ashley Miller (Men’s 400m Hurdles)
Bronze: Leeford Zuze (Men’s 400m)
For MWOS One Community, this initiative has always been about more than just a single race or season. It is about fostering community growth through the discipline of athletics and elevating Zimbabwe’s presence in the global sporting arena.
These young men have introduced a new world order in African athletics, demanding the world look at Zimbabwe as a premier athletics destination. We are honoured to be a part of their journey, and we remain committed to supporting local talent. When we elevate our athletes, we elevate Zimbabwe.
