Bournemouth has secured the arrival of Amine Adli from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £25.1m.
The Moroccan international has signed a contract running for five years, becoming the club’s seventh new face of the summer transfer period.
Adli made 143 appearances for Leverkusen, finding the net 10 times and creating 12 assists. In the 2023-24 campaign, he featured 42 times as the German side lifted both the league title and the domestic cup under then-coach Xabi Alonso.
Since American businessman Bill Foley took ownership shortly before the January 2023 market, Bournemouth has invested close to £350m in signings. On the other side, the Cherries have sold Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi for around £150m combined, with the trio moving to Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The south coast club are nearing the end of their trading activity and are also considering a temporary deal for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, although the London side would rather agree to a permanent transfer.
How Adli fits into Iraola’s system
Adli mainly operates from the left flank but has also been used as a number 10 or from the opposite wing.
He joined Leverkusen in 2021, before Alonso took charge, but struggled to secure a regular starting role. With Florian Wirtz and Nathan Tella usually ahead of him, Adli often came off the bench. He did, however, see more minutes when Wirtz was sidelined prior to the 2023-24 season.
In Andoni Iraola’s 4-1-4-1 shape, Adli looks set to slot into the left-sided role. In Bournemouth’s opening Premier League fixture against Liverpool, David Brooks was used on that side, even though his more natural position is on the right. With Luis Sinisterra currently unavailable through injury, space has opened up for a specialist left winger.
Assessing the move
At 25 years of age, Adli is still developing physically and has not yet reached his peak.
Having already played more than 140 games for Leverkusen and being part of a double-winning squad, his signing represents a fair investment rather than a gamble.
