United could sell Onana despite his desire to stay

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has expressed a strong desire to remain with the club beyond the summer. The 29-year-old Cameroonian, who joined the Premier League side from Inter Milan, is determined to establish himself under the leadership of incoming manager Ruben Amorim. Onana’s focus is on proving his value and retaining his role at the heart of United’s defense.

Despite speculation linking him to a possible move, Onana has made it clear that he prefers to stay and fight for his place in the squad. His commitment is seen as a positive sign amid the changes expected at Old Trafford following a disappointing campaign and the appointment of Amorim.

Monaco interested but yet to make a move

AS Monaco have shown interest in acquiring Onana, but so far, there have been no concrete steps taken. No official talks or negotiations have been initiated between the Ligue 1 club and Manchester United. While the Monegasque club has been linked with a move for the shot-stopper, Onana’s stance appears to cool the possibility of an immediate transfer.

Monaco are casting a wide net in their search for a new goalkeeper. In addition to Onana, the club is reportedly tracking Chelsea’s Djordje Petrović. The Serbian keeper spent last season on loan at RC Strasbourg, gaining experience in Ligue 1, which could make him an appealing alternative for the Principality side.

Financial pressure could force United’s hand

Even though Onana is eager to stay, the final decision may not rest solely with the player. Manchester United are actively looking to raise funds during the current transfer window in order to provide Ruben Amorim with the resources needed to reshape the squad according to his tactical vision. Offloading players, including those with market value like Onana, is being considered as part of this effort.

If serious interest in Onana materializes and includes a suitable financial offer, Manchester United may have little choice but to listen. The club’s need to balance the books and fund new arrivals could make retaining every player, regardless of their intentions, increasingly difficult.
