West Ham United have not yet made a final decision regarding the future of forward Michail Antonio. Manager Graham Potter addressed the situation during a press conference, noting that the 34-year-old is in an “unusual” position due to his recovery process.
Antonio, who suffered a fractured leg in a car accident in December, has not featured in a match since the incident. He underwent surgery and spent over three weeks in the hospital following the crash in Essex. Despite the severity of the injury, the Jamaica international has recently resumed light training.
With his contract due to expire this summer, the striker’s next steps remain unclear. Antonio is West Ham’s top scorer in Premier League history, netting 68 goals in 268 league appearances.
Potter emphasized that the club is focusing on supporting Antonio as he recovers, stating: “When there’s something to report, we’ll do so. For now, it’s about being there for him as he continues his journey back.”
Veteran quartet set to depart
Four experienced players are expected to depart West Ham at the conclusion of the season when their contracts run out. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, defenders Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal, and striker Danny Ings will all be leaving the club.
Cresswell, 35, has been a long-standing presence at the London side, completing 11 uninterrupted seasons in the top flight with West Ham – a club record. Fabianski, now 40, has also been a key figure in goal during his time with the team.
Coufal, 32, and Ings, also 32, were part of the squad that captured the UEFA Conference League title in 2023, a memorable achievement for the club and its fans.
Graham Potter praised the departing players for their contributions, calling them exemplary professionals both on and off the pitch. He highlighted their leadership, experience, and the respect they’ve earned within the club.
The manager explained that the early announcement was made to give fans the opportunity to honor the quartet during West Ham’s final home match of the campaign against Nottingham Forest on 18 May. Before that, the team will travel to face Manchester United this Sunday at Old Trafford.
