Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has returned to his duties after a period away due to illness. The 47-year-old had been receiving treatment in hospital following a pneumonia diagnosis earlier this month. After several days of feeling unwell, he was admitted and missed a run of fixtures, but has now resumed work at the club’s training base.
Howe’s absence saw assistant manager Jason Tindall and first-team coach Graeme Jones step in to manage the team. Newcastle United expressed their gratitude to fans on social media for the messages of support sent during the manager’s recovery.
Stand-ins guide team to big results
The club confirmed on 12 April that Howe would not be present for the match against Manchester United at St James’ Park. Tindall had already appeared in his place at the pre-match press conference the day before, raising concerns about Howe’s condition. He was later admitted to hospital on the evening of 11 April.
During the three matches without their head coach, Tindall and Jones oversaw two convincing victories and one heavy defeat. The Magpies beat Manchester United 4-1 and cruised to a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace. Their only loss came in a 4-1 result against Aston Villa.
Preparing for Ipswich at St James’ Park
Newcastle are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings, occupying the final spot for Champions League qualification. They will be aiming to build on their strong position when they face Ipswich Town at home on Saturday.
With Howe now back on the training ground, he is expected to lead preparations for the upcoming fixture and guide the team through the crucial final stages of the season.
