Tottenham Hotspur will not be parting ways with Ange Postecoglou despite his poor form in the league.
The Australian manager, who took England by storm last season and made a brag about his ability to bring in titles to any team by his second year with them, is now walking on hot coals.
He has managed to transform the team’s attacking identity as they are among the top goalscorers in the Premier League this season. However, the defensive work required to maintain the points won by their goals as well as the midfield play meant to link both defence and attack has been subpar.
This has led to them bottling so many leads and conceding so many goals which has pushed them all the way down into mid-table after a start that threatened to make Postecoglou’s words about winning in his second season come true.
Most recently, he lost to Leicester City, a team who are struggling to play good football and finish off games. The loss came at a time when the Foxes were unable to win any of their last four games, which makes it even worse for the former Glasgow Celtic manager.
The loss looked to be the straw that broke the camel’s back in the eyes of the media and many looked to Levy to make the call. However, the chairman has chosen to keep faith with the Australian and give him more chances to improve the situation at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
The report claims that Levy and the other Spurs chiefs are of the opinion that the injury crisis in the team is a big factor in their poor form, which gives Postecoglou a lifeline.
Postecoglou has two-and-a-half years remaining on the four-year deal he signed when he joined the club but after the Leicester City game, he took was unsure about his future.
“Who knows?” said the 59-year-old when asked about his future as Spurs manager. “When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t feel that. I feel like this group of players are giving everything for the club. I have a group of staff that is really committed. I focus on that. My role within that is to try and support these players.
“When the guys who are coming back come back it is going to give everybody a lift. There is a fantastic opportunity this season to make an impact and I know we can. But in terms of your question, is there anything I can say about that that is going to change anything that I need to do tomorrow morning? Nothing.”
