Ipswich Town have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of winger Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £20 million. The 22-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at Portman Road for the next four-and-a-half years.
A promising addition to Ipswich
Philogene has featured 11 times in the Premier League this season, with his most recent outing on 7 December. Speaking about his move, the winger expressed his eagerness to contribute to the team. “I’m thrilled to join the club. There’s a lot of talent here, and I want to play my part. I enjoy taking players on, creating chances, and scoring goals. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
Having progressed through Aston Villa’s academy system, Philogene made his senior debut in 2021. The England Under-21 international gained experience during loan stints at Stoke City and Cardiff City before making a permanent switch to Hull City in September 2023. His standout performances for the Tigers, including 12 goals in 32 matches, earned him a return to Villa earlier this year.
Strengthening Ipswich’s survival bid
Philogene is the 15th new arrival at Ipswich this season as manager Kieran McKenna aims to steer the team clear of relegation. The Suffolk club currently occupies 17th place in the Premier League table.
McKenna will hope Philogene’s pace and attacking flair can help turn Ipswich’s fortunes around. The team is next in action on Thursday evening, hosting Brighton at Portman Road in a crucial fixture. Kickoff is scheduled for 19:30 GMT.
