Australian football manager, Ange Postecoglou, who is currently in charge of the dugout of Tottenham Hotspur, has been given assurances by the club’s chief, Daniel Levy, despite a string of poor results.
Postecoglou showed promise last season and many accepted that he was a great replacement for the managers that came before him. He then went on to state that he will end the 2024/25 season with a trophy as he “always wins things in [his] second year” at every club he has managed.
Spurs fans, rival fans and the media have held on to this bold statement of his which he made after losing 1-0 to Arsenal in the first North London Derby of the season. Since then, things have been very unstable at the club in terms of their on-field performances.
In their last seven games, the North London outfit have won just once and Postecoglou’s claims have begun to make the rounds once more. For context, Spurs are now 11th in the league and 15 points off the top of the table. They are still competing in Europe and in the domestic cups, but this form is doing little to convince anybody of their chances at a title this season.
The buck stops at Levy’s table and the head man in charge has decided to continue backing the former Australia national team manager to build the squad and set them on the right path to winning trophies. This is according to the Daily Mail, who also claim that the club will monitor supporters’ reaction to Postecoglou as time goes on, which could possibly influence any future decisions.
In the meantime, they are going to support the man and back him even in the winter transfer window until they decided otherwise.
Meanwhile, things are about to get tougher for Postecoglou, as he has lost Cristian Romero to a muscle injury for the next six weeks.
The Argentina international returned to the starting lineup in the 3-4 home loss to Chelsea last weekend after some time on the sidelines, but had to be taken off before halftime. It was later revealed that he suffered a muscular injury in the first 15 minutes of the game. Now, Argentine journalist Gaston Edul claims that the World Cup winner will be sidelined for six weeks, which makes Postecoglou’s job a lot harder.
The 26-year-old will miss the next league matches against Liverpool and Newcastle United, as well as their EFL (Carabao) Cup quarter final against Manchester United, of which a loss further lowers Postecoglou’s chance of winning anything in his second season.
