In-form Saka reflects on impressive outing against West Ham

Bukayo Saka played a central role in Arsenal’s dominant performance against West Ham on Saturday. He delivered two key assists, earned a penalty, and scored a goal himself, all within an outstanding first-half display.

He is the first player in any of Europe’s top five leagues to achieve double digits in assists this season, bringing his total goal contributions to 18 across all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign.

After the game, Saka revealed that he sets personal goals for both goals and assists each season, which he keeps to himself. He added that his focus now is on surpassing the impressive numbers he has already achieved this year.

Saka not getting carried away with recent form

“I’m happy so far but you know, I have to keep going,” he said. “I can’t get complacent. It’s a long season and we’re only in November so, I need to continue like this.”

The 5-2 victory at the London Stadium marked Arsenal third consecutive win this week. Following their significant Champions League triumph in Lisbon on Tuesday, they have now scored ten goals in two successive away matches.

“It was a lot of fun, [we scored] a lot of goals and, yeah, we enjoyed it”.

“We’ve been playing like that the last few games, scoring a lot of goals. We’re in good form, good confidence and we’re enjoying our football.”

“We’ve built a lot of momentum now, we’ve played really well the last three games, not just the results were good but also the way we played so we’re happy, we’re confident and we’re going to take it into the next game which, we know is a big one”.

“We’re feeling good, we’re feeling ready for it, confident, so, let’s go!”

With 10 assists already at the start of December, Saka will fancy his chances of breaking the Premier League assist record in a single season, with the record of 20 currently jointly-held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. Already, Saka is the youngest Arsenal player to hit 50 Premier League assists and one can expect to see him climb even further down the charts over the coming years. It would be interesting to see where he will end up in a couple years.

Arsenal’s next fixture is a big game against Manchester United at the Emirates and Saka will be looking to impress once again with either a goal or an assist.
