Mo Salah speaks on Liverpool contract situation in the wake of inquiries into his future

Mohamed Salah has been at Liverpool for eight years but never has he been unsure of his place in the squad until this season, and he has spoken out about it in what is being interpreted by the media as a dig at the owners and administrators of the club.

Liverpool have been in contract talks with the Egyptian forward for an unnecessary long time, but according to recent media reports, there is nothing concrete between both parties. Salah is still doing what he is paid to do, however, which is to contribute the attacking numbers that Liverpool need to win games and possibly, the Premier League title at the end of the season.

The fans are excited and have also taken to social media on a few occasions to call on the club’s administrators to sort out the former FC Basel forward’s contract situation. Salah himself has now echoed their sentiments, giving comments that are being interpreted as a warning to the club to sort him out before he makes a decision on his future, which he can begin to do in the next five weeks when the January transfer window opens.

“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” the 32-year-old said. “You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans and the fans love me. But in the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands.”

Asked if he was saddened by the lack of progress, Salah added: “Of course, yeah. I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed, but we will see.

“I am very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic. I’m just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible.”

The contract standoff between FSG and Salah is reducing the American group’s credibility in the eyes of the fans, who have picked the Egyptian’s side in this matter.

They have made their feelings crystal clear from the stands this season, even recently adopting a banner that references Salah’s new bow and arrow celebration with the message: “He Fires A Bow. Now Give Mo His Dough.”
