Former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has dismissed speculation that Managing Director Cristiano Giuntoli influenced his dismissal earlier this year. In a lighthearted interview with Italy’s satirical TV show Striscia La Notizia, Allegri made it clear that Giuntoli was not involved in the decision. “Not at all,” Allegri said, as reported by Corriere della Sera. “I maintain a strong connection with my former team and always wish them the best.”
The 57-year-old coach, who was let go by Juventus in May despite having a year left on his contract, emphasized his respect for the club. Allegri has since been replaced by Thiago Motta, who has signed a three-year deal to lead the Bianconeri.
Trading Football for Tennis
Allegri has spent his time away from football indulging in other interests, including a newfound passion for tennis. Rather than focusing on football matches, he has enjoyed watching Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner. “I went to watch the ATP Finals, and I had so much fun,” Allegri shared. “Jannik is a fantastic player and a nice lad.”
The Livorno-born coach admitted he hasn’t been following football closely during his time off, opting instead to enjoy his vacation. “I’m doing well on holiday,” he said, showing no rush to return to management.
Premier League Links and a Splash of Humor
Allegri’s name has frequently surfaced in connection with Premier League jobs, including recent rumors about Manchester United before the club appointed Ruben Amorim. However, the Italian tactician has yet to take a job in England and offered a humorous explanation for why he hasn’t crossed the Channel.
“There was the English Channel and the sea in between,” Allegri quipped. “I didn’t have the water wings to swim till there.” Despite his playful remarks, Allegri’s absence from the Premier League remains a point of curiosity given his impressive résumé and history of success.
For now, Allegri appears content enjoying his break, keeping an eye on tennis, and reflecting on a career that has left an indelible mark on Italian football.
