Tottenham set to extend contract of key player

Heung-Min Son is set for a one-year contract extension at Tottenham Hotspur where he has spent the last decade.

The South Korea international joined the North London outfit from Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2015 and in that time, grew to be their most important player alongside Harry Kane. The latter would leave Spurs in the 2023/24 season, giving Son more prominence in the team.

His influence has won Spurs more fans than they ever had from Asia and his football has made them threatening despite their inability to get over the line in title and cup challenges. This season, he is leading their charge once more and now, fans have been assured that he will do so for at least another season.

His current deal with the club expires at the end of the ongoing season and Spurs have realised that he is too valuable to let go on a free. They are avoiding a repeat of the Kane situation, which saw the England national team captain move to Bayern Munich for free last season.

Signing Son to a new deal also guarantees Ange Postecoglou’s continuity at the club, per sources. The Australian is hoping to be the manager who ends their bad run which has seen them be without a trophy in over a decade and is keen to use the 32-year-old to achieve this goal.

Son himself is also looking to leave Spurs fans with good memories of him aside the 165 goals he has scored so far in his time there.

“I am fully focused on this year and just want to win something that everybody at the club – the players, all around – deserves,” he said. “That’s what I’m working for.

“In the future you never know what will happen, but I will give everything for this club because it’s been almost 10 years and I give everything.

“I still have a contract with the club which is the very important thing and I just want to give everything until my contract [expires].”

Meanwhile, Son could be linking up with Endrick in January as reports have it that Real Madrid want to send the talented young striker to the North London outfit for experience gathering. This is according to Fichajes, who also claim that Juventus want the player.

Spurs already have Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Timo Werner in that position, which makes any possible chase for Endrick look uninformed. However, it will be interesting to see how the North London outfit deals with it if the reports happen to be factual.
