Ten Hag Defends Casemiro After Tough Liverpool Defeat

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reaffirmed his trust in Casemiro, following the midfielder’s challenging display against Liverpool. The 32-year-old Brazilian was taken off at halftime after his mistakes contributed to two of Liverpool’s goals in their 3-0 victory just before the international break.

Ten Hag acknowledged the disappointing performance but stressed that even seasoned professionals can have off days. “I definitely still need him,” Ten Hag said about the former Real Madrid star. He emphasized that Casemiro has the experience to deal with tough games and bounce back.

New Signing Ugarte Provides Midfield Competition

Casemiro’s starting spot is now under threat with the arrival of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for £41 million. The Uruguay international is eligible to make his debut when United face Southampton this weekend, adding fresh competition in the midfield.

Ten Hag commented on the competition within the squad, especially at a club like Manchester United, which aims to compete on multiple fronts. “You need at least two players for every position,” Ten Hag said, stressing that squad depth is essential to cover the demands of several competitions.

Casemiro Expected to Recover from Setback

Despite Casemiro’s struggles in the Liverpool defeat, Ten Hag remains confident that the Brazilian will recover. “Everyone has bad days,” he remarked, adding that it’s normal for even the most experienced players to face challenges. He noted that this is not the first time Casemiro has had to bounce back from a poor performance and expects him to overcome this one as well.

Ten Hag concluded by saying that setbacks are a natural part of life and football, but he is certain that Casemiro will return stronger.
