In a swift turnaround, Samuel Iling-Junior is poised to head back to Italy’s Serie A, just a few weeks after making a move from Juventus to Aston Villa. According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio on Friday evening, the English winger is set to join Bologna on a season-long loan. Notably, the deal does not include an option for the Italian side to make the move permanent.
Aston Villa and Bologna Reach Agreement
Iling-Junior’s return to Serie A comes after he joined the Premier League club at the start of July. Despite this recent transfer, Bologna and Aston Villa have quickly come to terms on a loan arrangement for the upcoming season. The move brings the 20-year-old back to familiar territory, having spent two years with Juventus before heading to the Premier League.
Juventus Links and Financial Details
The winger initially moved to Aston Villa alongside midfielder Enzo Barrenechea in a complex transfer arrangement that involved Douglas Luiz going in the opposite direction to Juventus. Although the transfers were recorded as separate deals due to financial regulations, they were part of the same broader negotiation. Juventus received a reported fee of €14 million, with bonuses to be paid in installments over four financial years.
Experience in Serie A
Iling-Junior, who has already accumulated 36 appearances in Serie A during his time with Juventus, made his mark on the Italian league. During his stint with the Bianconeri between 2022 and 2024, he managed to find the back of the net twice, scoring once in each of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Now, he is set to add to those numbers as he embarks on a new chapter in Bologna.
