Man United preparing to part ways with Victor Lindelöf

Victor Lindelöf is at the end of his road at Old Trafford after seven years as a Manchester United player.

The Sweden national football team captain joined the Red Devils from Portuguese Primeira Liga side  Benfica as a 22-year-old and went on to be an integral part of several squads since then.

He was only able to play a few seasons as an undisputed starter but has spent the larger part of the last seven years as a reputable and dependable squad player for the record Premier League title holders.

Every coach that has worked at the club has requested a renewal of his contract, proving to many how much of a big figure he is in the team’s dressing room. The Swede also has a good reputation among the club’s fan base despite being a part of the club’s most underwhelming era in their history.

All of that looks to be coming to an end now, however, because José Mourinho wants him at Fenerbahçe.

The Portuguese manager was the man responsible for bringing Lindelof to England in 2017 and now wants to take him to Turkey as he prepares to help the club win their first Turkish Super Lig in a decade and end a run of three straight years as runners-up.

United are looking to shake up their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season and it is believed that a number of high-profile players will move on in the upcoming summer transfer window. With the news making the rounds as reported here, Lindelöf appears to be one of them.

Several reports claim that Lindelöf is not a priority sale, however, but the fact that the club is interested in bringing Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite to the club has made them consider the likelihood of his exit.

The Red Devils have already tabled a £43 million offer for Branthwaite to the Toffees who have refused. They are expected to return to that negotiating table with an improved offer as the 21-year-old is one of their priorities for the summer transfer window.

A good offer for Lindelöf could help them raise the capital they need to convince Everton to let go of the young Englishman. It remains to be seen if Fenerbahçe will help the Red Devils achieve their aim of signing Branthwaite by coming to the negotiating table for Lindelöf.

More updates as the story develops.
