Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has recently shared his insights on the debate over Europe’s finest football team.
Real Madrid: champions by results
The European football season reached its climax last weekend with the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium. Real Madrid faced off against Borussia Dortmund, securing a decisive 2-0 victory.
Reflecting on this result, Messi acknowledged the prowess of Carlo Ancelotti’s team. In an interview with Infobae, the former Barcelona forward remarked:
“Best team in the world? Real Madrid, the current European champions. If we talk about results, Real Madrid is the best.”
Manchester City: kings of performance
Messi, however, didn’t limit his praise to the results alone. Turning his attention to on-field performance, he highlighted another contender. The eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient commended Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola, as the superior team in terms of playstyle and execution:
“If we are talking about performance wise, Manchester City, led by Pep, is the best.”
