Real Madrid veteran Toni Kroos has revealed he will retire from football following this summer’s European Championship. The 34-year-old German midfielder, who has been an integral part of the club, shared his decision on Instagram.
A decade of triumphs with Los Blancos
Kroos joined Real Madrid in July 2014 and quickly established himself as a key player. Over his ten-year tenure, he has secured four La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. Reflecting on his time at the club, Kroos expressed gratitude to Madrid fans for their unwavering support.
In his heartfelt message, Kroos said, “As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. July 17th, 2014 – the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer – but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget that insolent successful time!”
A final farewell
Kroos will have one last opportunity to add to his illustrious career with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. Despite coach Carlo Ancelotti’s hopes that Kroos would stay for another year, the midfielder is determined to retire at his peak.
In his open letter, Kroos stated, “I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level. From now on there is only one leading thought: a por la 15!!! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!”
As he prepares for his final matches, Kroos looks forward to ending his career on a high note, both with Real Madrid and the German national team at Euro 2024.
