Real Madrid target Phil Foden for summer transfer

Real Madrid are in the news for another potential big money move as their sights are now set on Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

The 23-year-old has been with the Cityzens for 19 years, seven of which he has played for them professionally. Since his official debut in 2017, the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner has risen in the ranks to become an indispensable part of Pep Guardiola’s team.

The Spaniard even once claimed that Foden is a talent with a much higher ceiling than Lionel Messi, which forced all eyes to focus on him. He has not proven Guardiola wrong till date.

He is currently in the best form of his life in the 2023/24 season as a result of compounded efforts to become a key figure at Manchester City. He has stepped up in the long absences of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland to become their most important player this season, chipping in with 18 goals and 10 assists in 40 games across all competitions.

City are still in contention for another treble which, if they win, will be his second. He will also go down as the most important player for the squad in this run as he is already their player of the season, going by the feeling in their camp.

The fans are excited about a future where he helps them achieve legendary status in English football the way the likes of George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Matt Busby, Herbert Chapman and co did for their respective clubs. However, it looks like that future is not going to happen going by the latest string of reports.

Foden, whose current City contract runs out in 2027, is already looking to spread his wings after seven seasons of winning everything with the Cityzens. Madrid are attentive to the player’s sentiments and have reportedly earmarked funds to sign him in the summer of 2024.

This will see him join Kylian Mbappe and Endrick and possibly Alphonso Davies at the Santiago Bernabeu in Los Blancos’ class of 2024. They will play alongside Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Arda Guler, Rodrygo and Vinicius in a super team made up of the world’s best players aged 25 and under.

He is currently valued at £100 million thanks to his long-term contract but the world is aware that such funds are not impossible for Madrid. Foden, however, could be swayed by the prospect of playing alongside Bellingham, who is enjoying unprecedented success in Spanish football at the moment.

The ball will lie in Foden’s court as City are known to not prevent wantaway players. Fans are bracing up for a summer that could be as dramatic as another treble race.
