David Moyes, the current manager of West Ham, has disclosed that he has been presented with a new contract to continue his role at the club. However, Moyes has opted to postpone his decision on whether to accept the offer until the conclusion of the season. He cited ongoing discussions with the club’s owners, David Sullivan and Karren Brady, as the basis for his deliberation.
“I’ve had really good conversations with the owners, with David Sullivan and Karren Brady,” Moyes stated. “There’s a contract there for me and I’m the one deciding I want to wait until the end of the season.”
Moyes’ decision comes amidst mounting pressure due to West Ham’s recent struggles, including an eight-match winless streak. The team’s performance downturn has led to discontent among certain sections of supporters, evident in displays such as a “Moyes Out” banner observed during a recent match.
Mixed Success and Criticisms
Despite facing scrutiny, Moyes’ tenure at West Ham has been marked by notable achievements. Under his leadership, the club clinched the Europa Conference League title last season, marking their first major trophy win in 43 years. Additionally, West Ham secured sixth and seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and reached the Europa League semi-finals in 2022.
However, criticisms against Moyes include accusations of negative tactics, a surplus of central midfielders, and a perceived reluctance to utilize wide players. Furthermore, concerns have been raised over his handling of certain high-profile signings, such as Sebastien Haller and Gianluca Scamacca, who failed to meet expectations despite significant investment.

Addressing the decision-making process regarding his contract, Moyes emphasized the need to ensure alignment with the club’s interests and his personal circumstances. “There are plenty of reasons [to wait]. I’ve got to make sure it’s the right thing for the club, for me and my family,” Moyes explained. “I’ve spoken to the board. I’ve had a fabulous four years. We’ll sort it out but I’m happy to wait.”
