West Ham eyeing up move for Eric Dier in January

West Ham United are looking to strengthen their ranks to push for UEFA Champions League football next season and they believe Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier can help them.

The East London club, managed by David Moyes, is already in talks with the North London club over the player whom Ange Postecoglou has sidelined this season for tactical reasons.

Moyes is reportedly a big fan of the English defender and is pushing the club to complete a January move for him.

West Ham are on the rise after beating Manchester United and Arsenal by two goals each in back-to-back games. They are now sixth on the table, six points away from the top five who could be representing the Premier League in next season’s new-look Champions League.

Their chances are threatened by Manchester United, however, which is why Moyes is calling for the strengthening of his defence with Dier.

The former Everton manager also wants the club to invest in attacking talents in the January window. His preference is players with “extensive Premier League experience” as he also intends to drive them towards winning the UEFA Europa League just like they did the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.

Spurs are likely to consider the deal for Dier, whose deal expires this summer. This also means that West Ham could get him for cheap as he has less than six months remaining as a contracted player for the North London side. Reports claim that the player could go for as low as £10.4 million from a high of £40 million at the start of the season.

This will bring an end to over a decade of playing for the Lilywhites. It could also mean an opportunity for him to get back into the England Three Lions squad as the 2024 UEFA European Championships approaches.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are looking for ways to offload Thilo Kehrer in January. AS Monaco are in talks to sign the German defender from West Ham according to transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano. AC Milan, AS Roma and Atalanta BC are also interested in the former Paris Saint-German defender.

Those are not the only business West Ham is expected to carry out in January. David Moyes himself is expected to sign a new contract at the London Stadium.

His current deal runs out at the end of the ongoing season and there is belief that the club’s bosses are working on a new deal for the 60-year-old tactician.
