Harry Kane influence still strong at Tottenham as captain Son pays tribute to Bayern star

Tottenham Hotspur’s golden boy Harry Kane may be wearing different colours now but his time at the club is still making waves.

Kane, who made his first team debut for Spurs in 2009 after spending his developmental years at the club’s academy, went on to become the club’s greatest player ever.

He is their highest goalscorer and assister, and the mark of many milestone moments in the club’s history.

He left to join Bayern Munich last season but continues to support his boyhood club from afar and maintain a good relationship with his former teammates.

Of all the teammates, he shares an especially close bond with the club’s current captain, Heung-Min Son. The South Korean started his captaincy with a promise to Spurs fans to try to replicate what Kane did for the team. So far, he has done above average.

His most recent outing, however, was masterful and while it was original, the numbers reminded everyone of Kane’s influence in the team. Son spoke after the match in which Spurs thrashed Newcastle United 4 – 1 and credited Harry Kane for making him a better footballer.

“I thought today was fantastic. I hope we can continue to perform like this and stay humble,” Son said, starting his comments with his thoughts on the game’s outcome. “We said we had to be more ruthless. We were ruthless today and were creating chances. To beat Newcastle 4-1 is not easy. They are a very strong side, so credit all the players and fans.”

“We have to demand more and more from each other. It’s never enough. Those amazing teams always keep going. It should be a habit for us. If we continue to be strong like this, we will be a very good side.”

Then about Kane, he said: “Shall we call Harry [Kane] back? I practiced all the time, even when Harry was here. And I learned a lot from him.”

Kane was the club’s primary penalty taker until he left and Son stepped up to the plate for the first time since the English striker left the club and scored. His cleanly taken penalty kick and man -of-the-match performance reminded fans and pundits alike of Kane.

Spurs are now fifth on the log after spending time at the top of the table. Son’s performances now will be counted on more than ever to help return the club back to its top six status with an eye on the top, where they were until a few weeks ago.
