Mbappe returns to PSG training after standoff with club settles

Paris Saint-Germain fans can now look forward to seeing more of Kylian Mbappe after the player and the club came to a consensus on their differences over his contract situation.

The Frenchman has been ignoring every attempt by the club to get him to sign the optional extension on his contract which will see him remain at the club until 2025.

Many believed he was already in cahoots with Real Madrid, whose fans’ hearts he broke when he chose to remain at Parc De Princes in 2022. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was intent on leaving for free after his contract was up and this caused a problem which led to his temporary suspension from the team.

Journalists asked manager Luis Enrique how he was going to handle the case but the Spaniard remained calm. He told the journalists to only watch out for his actions as they would speak louder than his words would towards the case.

PSG now look to have settled their differences with Mbappe because the player was pictured in the club’s training facilities in high spirits.

Reports are claiming that Mbappe has made a U-turn on his decision not to sign a contract to extend his stay until 2025. According to the reports, the 24-year-old forward will sign but with an exit clause which can be triggered at the end of the ongoing season. There are no other corroborating reports but the forward is set to return to the squad list ahead of the matchday 2 fixture against Toulouse following the new development.

A club statement posted to their social media on the issue reads: “After very constructive and positive discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappe before the PSG – Lorient match, this Saturday 12th August, the player was reinstated in first-team training this morning.”

The player was in the stands for the match alongside new signing Ousmane Dembele, who he sent a special note of welcome after the winger completed his move from Barcelona to Parc De Princes. PSG played a goalless draw with Lorient and fans would have wondered how much of a difference it would have made for the defending Ligue 1 champions if Mbappe – and Dembele – were on hand in the game.

Meanwhile, Neymar is close to joining Al-Hilal for a significant fee. The Saudi club initially submitted a €300 million bid to PSG, who accepted, and a humongous salary package to Mbappe. The player refused to entertain discussions with them and now, they have their sights set on Neymar.

The 31-year-old has a deal with PSG that runs out in 2027 but is ready to cut ties with them at the moment. The saga will be complete in the coming days, according to reports.
