Son Heung-Min praises Harry Kane for professionalism in the midst of transfer saga

Son Heung-Min has praised his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Harry Kane for the way he has handled himself in the midst of the transfer noise surrounding him while admitting it has not been easy on the England international.

Kane, 29, is in the final year of his contract at Spurs and is believed to be seeking a move elsewhere. The club’s leadership are not willing to allow him to leave, however. The Daniel Levy-led administration have slapped a price tag on Kane that has deterred all the interested parties. On the other hand, they are working to get him to agree to a new contract.

The England Three Lions captain, who is currently the stand-in captain for Spurs after Hugo Lloris left the club at the end of the 2022/23 season, is in a dilemma. He is less than 50 goals away from the all-time Premier League scoring record and to break it, he has to remain in the league for two more seasons at least. Also, the clubs interested in him are clubs that guarantee any player at least one trophy every season.

Bayern Munich are among the interested clubs and are not giving up their interest in the striker according to reports which also claim that Kane is enticed by the possibility of the move. These are all the factors that Son considered when responding to questions about the state of his teammate in the club’s pre-season preparations.

“Harry has been fantastic for me,” Son told reporters in Bangkok during their Thailand tour. “He’s always professional, always working hard. “He’s never showed any thoughts about himself. There’s so much news going around it’s also not easy for him, but he’s captain at the moment and he’s working with the team.

“He doesn’t show any distraction. He loves being here. I love him as a player. I fully respect him.

“He’s one of the best strikers in the world, has been for five, six, seven years in a row.”

Son also went ahead to distanced himself from the transfer talks, stating expressly that Kane and the club will decide the striker’s future. “The decision will be between the club and Harry and we have to respect it,” the South Korean said.

“I can’t say anything about the final decision because I don’t know anything. Probably Harry doesn’t know. We just have to wait.”

Spurs will travel to Singapore in the coming days. There, they will face Lion City Sailors on Wednesday before they head back to England to prepare for the new Premier League season.
