Harry Kane needs to push for transfer to prove ambition – Stan Collymore

Stan Collymore has challenged Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to leave the club this season and prove his ambitiousness.

At just 29 years old, Harry Kane is less than 50 goals away from being the all-time Premier League top scorer in history. At his average rate of 20 goals a season, he will achieve this before he is 32. This is why he is regarded as one of England’s best players and one who many clubs have tried to add to their teams.

However, Kane has a loyalty to Spurs and the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, guards him like a dragon guards its eggs.

Recently, the England Three Lions captain has shifted grounds and is ready to move on, but Levy’s unwillingness to let him go has hindered a move to clubs where he could find much more success.

Kane’s perceived levity towards choosing a move to a team that can help him add the one thing that can complete his legacy – trophies – has seen him criticised by fans and media pundits alike.

A new round of criticism is ongoing as Spurs continue to block all his exit paths. German giants Bayern Munich are pushing hard for his signature, with Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Real Madrid all in the mix.

Collymore, who played for Liverpool more than a decade ago, has called Kane out for his “lack of ambition” for not doing enough to force a move to Bayern or the other clubs who have shown interest in him. Collymore also advised Levy to cash in on Kane at the moment and invest the returns in looking for the next one.

“He’s got to go,” the 52-year-old said in his column with Caught Offside. “He’s done everything he needs to do at Tottenham Hotspur; there is nothing else left for him there now, and if he doesn’t push for a transfer then I am questioning his ambition.

“If Kane continues to sit there quietly and make it easy for Daniel Levy to turn down £60 million – £70 million bids from a club like Bayern Munich, who are always in with a chance of winning the Bundesliga and the Champions League, then surely he doesn’t really have any desire to leave Spurs.

“If the notion is that he’s settled and he wants to stay in London, that to me shows a distinct lack of ambition. Let’s not forget – this is a world-class player who does not know what it feels like to lift a major trophy. Surely the time has come for Kane to be demanding silverware.

“Considering football doesn’t wait for anybody if I were Kane, I would be doing all I can behind the scenes to force a move to Bayern Munich because it could very well be his last chance to win major domestic silverware.”
