Manchester United and Rashford close to agreeing contract extension terms

Manchester United and Marcus Rashford MBE are close to agreeing on contract extension details which will see the 25-year-old striker become one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

Rashford has spent all his life at Manchester United and in 2015, made his debut for the first team. He has long been touted as the future of the club but he has come through tough times in recent years. Injuries and general poor form of the team have stunted his career trajectory but he continues to be one of their most influential players on and off the pitch.

This makes him the target of angry fans, trolls and racists who he continues to fend off by ignoring them or responding calmly to them. Despite United’s struggles in the 2022/23 season, Rashford ended the season with 30 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. That goal and assist record placed him in elite company in Europe as he was in the top five for most goal contributions alongside Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

In his eight years at Manchester United, he has racked up 373 appearances in all competitions and has scored 128 goals, providing a further 68 assists according to football data and stats aggregator Transfermarkt. That has made him the club’s most potent attacker in the last eight seasons, a feat that is set to continue with the player and the club close to extending their relationship.

This is in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain’s repeated trials to get the forward to sign with them. The French Ligue 1 giants are on the verge of losing all of their feared front three and see Rashford as a player that can boost their attack. He is about to enter the final year of his contract worth £ 250,0000 a week and the Parisiens have initiated moves to convince him to leave Old Trafford.

Those efforts look to be in vain as Rashford’s new contract will not only see him extend his stay at his preferred club but get his earnings up significantly.

The duration of the new contract is unknown but reports suggest that it will be a three-year extension worth around £350,000 to £400,000 a week.

Rashford’s good form has also extended to England, helping him solidify his place in the Three Lions’ attacking set-up. He scored the third goal in England’s 7 – 0 routing of North Macedonia and was a constant threat all through the game. Steven Gerrard called him England’s most dangerous player after the match.

“The threat was there. There is a hunger and relentlessness about this England team now,” Gerrard began. “Nice little tap in from Marcus, who was our biggest threat up to that point.”

Former Chelsea forward Joe Cole was also full of praise for Rashford. “Outstanding,” he said. “He missed the Malta game but he was so clever, getting into positions and they were feeding him the ball.

“He gave [North Macedonia] a torrid time. When you’re playing against a player with that kind of speed, agility and ability – you cannot stop him.”
