Cody Gakpo keen on joining Manchester United

Cody Gakpo was the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United in the summer. The PSV forward said he would consider a move to Old Trafford if another bid arrives.

Manchester United is still in the hunt for players to bolster their squad. The World Cup has allowed the Red Devils a better view of one of their targets as they seek to strengthen in the winter transfer window. Man United manager Erik Ten Hag is keen to bring in reinforcements.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has left the team short in attack. The tell-all interview by Cristiano Ronaldo exposed plenty of the rot at Old Trafford. It showed the team needs plenty of professionals. Towards this, Ten Hag wants to bring a talented forward to lead the line for the old Trafford side.

One player that mesmerizing the fans at the Qatar World Cup is Cody Gakpo. The PSV forward has scored three goals to help his team reach the quarter-final of the World Cup. Gakpo is a Manchester United target and confessed he might be interested in joining the Red Devils in the winter transfer window.

Gapko is interested in joining Man United

Manchester United had an uncoordinated transfer campaign in the summer. The long and unsuccessful pursuit of Frenkie de Jong during the summer indicated Ronaldo was correct about the shenanigans behind the scenes. Reports suggested an interest in PSV forward Cody Gapko, though he never arrived at Old Trafford.

As he continues to shine at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Gakpo has admitted there was an interest from Man United in the summer. He said he thought about them and would probably consider them again if they made another approach in January.

Man United had to decide between getting the PSV forward in the summer and Ajax winger Antony. The Red Devils ended up with Antony, now the butt of criticism. The signing of the Brazilian truncated a deal for Gakpo. With their fortunes not getting better than last season, the Red Devils are seriously considering approaching the PSV forward.

A brilliant season for Gakpo
It has been a stellar outing for Gakpo at the World Cup. He became the first Dutchman to score in each of his first three games at the World Cup. The performances of the PSV star have alerted top clubs of his availability, with Man United one of them.

According to 90mins, United believe he would fit in well at Old Trafford, with Ten Hag pushing to get the deal done.

Gapko told Dutch outlet NRC that he hasn’t heard from the Premier League giants yet. He said if they came for him, he would think about it with God’s help. Gakpo added that he thought of them last summer. He moved on when an approach didn’t surface. Gakpo also said he had doubts about a move to Leeds United.

Gapko opted to remain at PSV despite interest from Leeds and Southampton. The 23-year-old is enjoying his debut World Cup with the Oranje gang. He has scored 13 goals with 17 assists in all competitions for PSV in the first half of the season.

Gakpo hopes to see the Netherlands soar over Argentina in the quarter-final on December 9.
