Until his arrest, Greenwood had only made one international appearance for England. He made his international debut in September 2020.
There was hope on the horizon for Greenwood to return to the Manchester United setup. It has received a massive setback as the academy graduate is back in the hands of the law for violating his bail terms. The GMP first arrested Greenwood in January 2022, and the club suspended him from the first-team activities of the club. The suspension is still in force.

The statement by the Greater Manchester Police states that they had charged and remanded a 21-year-old man with controlling and coercive behaviour, attempted rape and Section 47 assault of a woman.
Greenwood will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court on Monday, 17 October 2022, following his arrest on Saturday, 15 October.
