Chelsea are keen on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona. The Blues hope to use Marcos Alonso as a makeweight in the deal as Barca asks for £20 million.
The flaws in Chelsea’s attacking set-up were laid bare again at the weekend. It has forced the Blues to up the ante as they pursue Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Perhaps it is time to question the decision-making and tactical intellect of Thomas Tuchel. The German gaffer fell out with Romelu Lukaku, showing his preference for Kai Harvetz. The decisions by Tuchel have come full circle to the manager as he now wants to sign a striker for the Blues.
Kai Harvetz has failed to deliver the goods, with many wondering why Lukaku rarely got a chance. The goals have been at a premium for the Blues as they do not have a known striker. No Chelsea attacker has managed to score a goal this season. It has become a source of worry for the club.
Chelsea have been negotiating with Barcelona over the signing of Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Blues are now confident they could land the forward.
Chelsea are confident Aubameyang will join
Chelsea are looking to solve their striker issues and have earmarked Aubameyang as the player to sort the mess. Negotiations have been ongoing for the Gabonese striker, with no agreement yet with Barcelona.
Despite the delay in signing the former Arsenal striker, Chelsea remain confident they will secure the player. Aubameyang is one of at least three players Chelsea hopes to sign before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea started the season without an out-and-out striker. They have prosecuted their first three games with the ineffectual Kai Harvetz, who has found scoring an arduous task.
Negotiations are progressing smoothly, with Barcelona demanding around £20m. The deal could see Aubameyang reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel.
Other Chelsea targets
Besides Aubameyang, Chelsea have other players in their sights as they seek to bolster their squad. The departure of Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona has left the Blues a little short at the back. The Blues have signed Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly but need more hands at the back.
Their needs have forced them to look at other Premier League sides in the quest to strengthen their squad. With Aubameyang as the leading striker chase, the Blues also want to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton as they prepare the third bid for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.
Chelsea have seen four offers for the 21-year-old Anthony Gordon turned down by Everton. Gordon is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, but Everton are playing hardball. The Blues have offered £45m plus £5m in add-ons, but Everton want a fee over £50m.
