Manchester City set to offer three players new contracts

Reports have claimed that Manchester city are set to extend the deal of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Rodri. As per renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club is prioritizing Mahrez’s deal for now as they seek to settle each one after the other.

With the departure of key forward Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal, the club is keen to secure the future of the players currently on ground. Also, given that Raheem Sterling could also secure a move to Chelsea in a matter of days, it is seen as a matter of urgency for the reigning Premier League champions to secure the future of important players ahead of next season.

Though the English left winger enjoyed a productive season last term, his consistency and injury issues have caused the club to seek other alternatives , hence his imminent sale. Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the former Liverpool forward.

Mahrez is seen as a key figure at City

However, on the contrary, Algerian winger Mahrez is believed to be a very key player in Guardiola’s plans for the next season. With his deal ending next term, an extension is seen as imperative.

The 31-year-old was the club’s highest goal scorer last season with 24 goals and was ultimately the most consistent player throughout an imbalanced season for the citizens. His input is seen as highly valuable and a new deal will be agreed and announced soon.

The club also seeks to renew the current deals of Phil Foden and Rodri. Both players’ contracts run until 2024, but their significance to the team is seen as beyond value and an extension is on the cards. The winner of the PFA young player award had a stunning season and is gradually etching himself into Manchester City folklore with his mercurial performances week in week out.

Also, Rodri who showed his worth last season, is primed for an increase in his wages and an extension in his time at the club. The Spaniard was heavily relied on due to the fact that Fernadinho was seen as incapable of playing the defensive midfield role and was used in other areas of the pitch.

Though City have dipped their hands into the transfer market and signed players like Kalvin Philips and Erling Haaland, they have not forgotten key figures that will be so crucial in continuing the success plans of Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City have not spent as many would have expected this summer but they have rather chosen to be smart and balance the books rather than make extravagant buys like in previous seasons.
