Brazil continue to search for a new manager following the resignation of Tite after their ouster at the World Cup. Zinedine Zidane has emerged as another contender for the job, as Brazil wants a well-known name.
The World Cup in Qatar left bitter feelings for Brazil. The Selecao was favoured to win the tournament, thanks to the plethora of stars in the team, but they came up short in the quarter-final, where they lost to Croatia via penalties.
The loss has claimed its casualties, and changes are to follow in the team. For one, 38-year-old Thiago Silva knows this is his last World Cup, and more changes should follow. Following the loss to Croatia, the team manager Tite fell on his sword, electing not to continue as the team coach. He has now left Brazil with the job of filling his position.
Following the resignation of Tite, Brazil are in the market for a new manager, and they have sampled several opinions. Their first target was Carlo Ancelotti, but the Italian prefers to stay at Real Madrid till his contract elapses or he loses his job. The latest manager on their radar is former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.
Brazil consider Zinedine Zidane for top job
The Selecao are having sleepless nights as they look for a replacement for Tite. The veteran manager, who left his role as coach of Brazil following their ouster at the World Cup, has left the team in need of a new manager. The pickings are slim, with the top managers already taken.
Brazil have now turned their sights on former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane. According to reports in France, the Frenchman is under consideration for the vacant Brazil job. Zidane has been out of work since leaving his last role at Real Madrid, and Brazil considers him an adequate replacement for Tite.
According to L’Equipe, the Brazilian FA hope to appoint a foreigner after Tite, and the 50-year-old Zidane has emerged as a potential replacement. There have been other links to Zidane in the past. The Frenchman was also a target for Manchester United, but he has his eyes on the French national team.
Les Bleus may be a lost cause for Zidane
It is no secret that Zinedine Zidane dreams of managing the France national team. There have been suggestions in the past that he would take over from Didier Deschamps after the World Cup in Qatar, but there may be a spanner in the works as Deschamp may continue as manager of Les Bleus.
Didier Deschamps has the full backing of the president of the French Football Federation. FFF president Noel Le Graet has indicated that talks with Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps will hold next week as he hopes to extend his contract. Deschamps has been in charge of the national team since 2012. He won the World Cup with France in 1998 as a player and in 2018 as a manager.
Noel Le Graet has said he would like the 54-year-old Deschamps to continue at the helm and even hinted he could lead the team at the 2030 World Cup.
There are suggestions that if Zidane does not get the France role, he could return to club football. Zidane is the only manager to win three Champions League trophies consecutively. He won it with Real Madrid in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.
