Zidane set to take France job after World Cup

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to become the next France national team head coach, with the role expected to begin after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Multiple reports indicate that the former Real Madrid manager has said “yes” to leading Les Bleus, although official confirmation from the French Football Federation is still pending.

Zidane, one of France’s most celebrated football figures, has been without a managerial role since leaving Real Madrid in 2021. During his time at the Spanish club, he built a reputation as one of the most successful modern day coaches.

He famously guided Real Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018, a historic achievement still yet to be matched by any current coach.

In addition, Zidane won 2 La Liga titles,2 FIFA Club World Cups, 2 UEFA Super Cups and 2 Spanish Super Cups.

Known for his calm leadership and tactical flexibility, Zidane managed Real Madrid across two separate spells, maintaining a strong win rate and dressing room control.

At international level, Zidane is also a national icon, having played a key role in France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000 triumphs.

If confirmed, Zidane is expected to take over from current France coach Didier Deschamps, who has been in charge since 2012 and led the team to World Cup success in 2018.
