Vitinha completes loan move to Genoa CFC

Olympique de Marseille has officially announced the temporary departure of Portuguese striker Vitinha to Genoa CFC until the conclusion of the current season, including an option for Genoa to make the transfer permanent.

Vitinha, who joined Marseille in January of the previous year for a club-record fee, has faced challenges in adapting to his new environment. Despite high expectations, the striker struggled to find his form, with a notable decline in confidence evident in his recent performances.

Struggles in Marseille and a lasting image

In what appears to be his final appearance for Marseille, Vitinha’s difficulties were magnified as he missed several scoring opportunities. The lasting image of the striker failing to convert in the dying minutes of the game, particularly against an open net, encapsulated his struggles during his tenure with Les Phocéens.

The Portuguese forward, with only six goals in 43 appearances for the club, failed to live up to the expectations associated with his significant transfer fee. Following the game, Vitinho swiftly exited the pitch and headed down the tunnel, reflecting the apparent loss of confidence and challenging environment he faced in Marseille.

Fresh start away from Marseille’s pressures

With a move away from Marseille now finalized, it is perceived as the optimal solution for both the player and the club. The hope for Marseille is to potentially recoup losses on Vitinha through a combined deal involving the Portuguese striker and Ruslan Malinovskyi. Vitinha, on the other hand, can anticipate a fresh start away from the burdensome pressure associated with his hefty price tag, providing an opportunity to rediscover his form in a different setting.
