Bayern Munich fans have lost all faith in Thomas Tuchel and are no longer expecting anything from the former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager, but are expecting a win against Arsenal over two legs in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash.
This is because the Bavarians have always beaten Arsenal in hilarious fashion whenever both sides are paired in this stage of the competition. Arsenal’s last appearance in the competition before the 2023/24 season saw them lose to Bayern, in fact.
This is why Tuchel is expected to win against the Gunners, although there is little faith in him among the club’s fans thanks to how their season has gone. This is also why Tuchel believes that Arsenal stand no chance against the six-time UEFA Champions League title winners.
The tactician references Bayern’s experience as the key reason why Arsenal will struggle even though the first leg is at the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal have barely dropped a point or lost a game this season.
“We have more experience in the Champions League. It’s different in the Champions League compared to the Premier League. We want to use that to our advantage,” Tuchel told reporters on Monday.
However, Tuchel is still wary about Arsenal’s threat and has pointed out one player who he believes is key to Arsenal’s attacking threat.
“I think Arsenal define themselves as an exceptional and fun team to watch. They don’t rely too much on individual solutions to win matches consistently. They are very impressive. But [Martin] Ødegaard is one of the key players.”
“We like the way he likes to start his actions, we know very well how he wants to start them and the connections between him and Bukayo Saka. I hope we find the right solutions and that the players find the key to making their lives difficult.”
“It’s impressive how he’s grown as a captain and he’s one of the players we’re trying to stop.”
Tuchel also hyped up Harry Kane’s record against Arsenal as something he banks on to hurt the Gunners.
“Kane? Harry is very happy to be here against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals. Scoring will make him very happy, I still have nothing holding him back. He will be very motivated to score. He helps any team: Tottenham, England and now us too. Hopefully it helps us perform and win tomorrow.”
