Transfer Rumours: Real Madrid eyeing Leicester City midfielder for summer transfer

Fichajes reports that Florentino Perez, Real Madrid president, is eyeing a move for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison as he prepares to replace veteran Luka Modric.

Maddison has been in and out of form and, as a result, in and out of the Foxes team for the past two season due to niggling injury concerns but has finally regained his spot in the team and is beginning to show again why he was once the target of top teams.

Meanwhile, Madrid has an aging midfield core and are looking for good replacements for their veterans, especially 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, who will be 37 by the time the 2022/23 season comes round.

Fichajes says that Florentino Perez has “dusted off a name that already sounded a few markets ago, James Maddison” as he searches for a replacement for the veteran Croat.

The reports also says Madrid are ready to move for Maddison as soon as this summer as the 25-year-old has finally come back into his form which has made him one of the Premier League’s biggest stars in recent years.

Maddison is still under contract at the King Power until 2024 but it is understood that he is ready to make the move up if the opportunity comes.

One of the reasons for the Englishman’s openness to a move away from the club is the constant omission from the England Three Lions squad.

Leicester turn to Austria for new striker

Elsewhere, the Foxes are planning to return to the club from where they snapped up Patson Daka last summer for another striker.

Red Bull Salzburg striker Chukwubuike Adamu has emerged as a target for the 2015 Premier League winners according to a report by Daily Mail.

The Nigerian-born Austrian striker is the latest revelation from the Salzburg talent factory run by Red Bull and is a reported target for a number of clubs across Europe. His contract at the club runs till 2025, by which time Salzburg would have produced another prodigious talent.

The Foxes will have to contend with fellow Premier League club Southampton, Olympique de Marseille, and AS Monaco for the £15 million-rated Adamu, according to the report.

A few clubs in the Bundesliga also have their sights set on the striker, who has five goals from 22 Austrian Bundesliga games this season.
