Victor Osimhen will wear the colours of Turkish Süper Lig side Galatasaray SK for the 2024/25 season after a tumultuous summer transfer window which saw Napoli scupper deals for the player to Saudi Arabia, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
At the end of the transfer window, the Partenopei froze out their Scudetto-winning striker from the club with new manager Antonio Conte categorically stating that there was no way back for him into the team. He had acquired the service of Romelu Lukaku, a striker who he has worked with in the past to great effect and believes he can work with to regain the glory that Osimhen and his teammates brought to Napoli after 33 years of waiting.
Many believed that Osimhen would not be playing club football this season until January at the least but a ray of hope shone through in the form of Galatasaray to illuminate the striker’s path to relevance again.
He has been warmly welcomed by the club’s fans who were there as he landed at the airport. He will be signing his deal in the next few hours and gearing up to meet his new teammates with whom he will attempt to retain the Süper Lig title in 2024/25.
Napoli will cover the entirety of Osimhen’s wages in Turkey but the club will pay no loan fee. Instead, they will cover Osimhen’s wages of around €9/10 million. Napoli also reduced his release clause to €75 million from €130 million which means that it has become easier for him to leave the Italian club after his stint in Turkey.
However, the player inserted a strange clause into his loan deal with the Turkish giants. Osimhen still has his sights set on a big move to the Premier League and has given Napoli and Galatasaray a list of 10 clubs for who he wants to break his deal with the Turkish giants. If any of these clubs make a move for him in the coming months, he wants to be free to join them. These clubs will have to pay the €75 million release clause to Napoli, of course.
The Nigerian striker is getting ready for life after Napoli, it seems, with his relationship all but broken with the Neapolitan side. He will remain in their history books just as Diego Maradona will for leading them to a Scudetto, only the third in their history.
