Milan’s Struggle: Player Ratings After Salernitana Draw

Italian sports papers have turned their attention to key players Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Rafael Leao following AC Milan’s 2-2 draw against Salernitana. The Rossoneri, who faced the relegation-threatened side on Friday, now find themselves just five points above fifth-placed Bologna, with Thiago Motta’s team having a game in hand.

According to Gazzetta, Hernandez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek received the lowest ratings of 4.5/10, with both players identified as the most disappointing performers. Maignan and Ismael Bennacer also faced criticism, earning a rating of 5 in Corriere dello Sport. Tuttosport was equally unimpressed with Maignan, assigning him a score of 4.5/10. The French goalkeeper was particularly scrutinized for his role in conceding Antonio Candreva’s goal, with observers noting a lapse in performance at the near post.

Rafael Leao also found himself in the crosshairs, receiving low ratings of 5 from both Gazzetta and Tuttosport, and a slightly higher score of 5.5 from Il Corriere dello Sport. The Portuguese star has been struggling to find the back of the net in Serie A, having last scored in September.

Mixed Ratings for Loftus-Cheek and Tomori Shines Despite Injury

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s performance divided opinions among Italian sports papers. While La Gazzetta gave him a rating of 4.5, Corriere and Tuttosport were more generous, awarding him a score of 6/10. Fikayo Tomori, on the other hand, emerged as the standout player for Milan in Salerno. The English center-back, who scored his third goal of the season in the first half, was unfortunately subbed off due to injury after the break. Despite the team’s overall struggles, Tomori’s consistent contributions were acknowledged, highlighting his significance in the defensive lineup.

Additionally, all Italian sports papers agreed on Fikayo Tomori being Milan’s best player in Salerno. His early goal showcased his offensive prowess, adding a valuable dimension to Milan’s play. However, his untimely injury raised concerns about the team’s defensive stability, emphasizing the importance of Tomori’s role in the squad. The English defender’s absence in subsequent matches could prove challenging for AC Milan as they navigate a tight Serie A race.
