Marco Verratti has decided to remain at the Parc des Princes for another three and half years. The Italian midfielder signed a contract extension with the Ligue 1 giants till 2026.
Football is now all about money. It is what fuels the ambition of the modern-day footballer. There is an abject lack of curiosity, and it is well-pronounced amongst the big clubs. Their loyalty is rarely to the club but to the money. It is a rare phenomenon for top players these days to move to clubs that offers them a viable sporting project without massive sums attached to it.
Paris Saint-Germain is perhaps the wealthiest football club in the world and can sign any player they want. Money is not an object, and their wealth means it is an arduous assignment to nick players off them. A typical example is a tug-of-war that ensued between the French giants and Real Madrid. Real Madrid, with all their history and wealth, could not compete with the state-owned club for Mbappe.
Barcelona also dreamed of Lionel Messi returning to the Nou Camp, but PSG is like a trap. Once in, it is hard to get out. Marco Verratti might have been dreaming of a return to Italy someday, but it is now evident the Italian would finish his professional career at PSG.
PSG confirm contract extension for Verratti
Marco Verratti will remain at the Parc des Princes for a few more years. PSG recently confirmed the midfielder signed a new deal with the club. The latest news means he has extended his stay in the French capital.
The Italian midfielder joined PSG in 2012 after rising through the ranks at Pescara. Verratti has grown from modest beginnings to undoubtedly one of the greatest midfielders in the world in the last decade. He was a target sought by several top clubs, including Real Madrid, but on all occasions decided to remain in the French capital.
Verratti has been enormous for PSG and is almost irreplaceable. The club took to their Twitter account to announce the latest development. They confirmed that the Italian midfielder had signed a deal running through 2026. If Verratti had plans of one day returning to Italy, it means it would happen when he’s past his prime, except PSG decides to terminate the contract or offload him.
A successful career with PSG
Verratti has a closet filled with domestic titles, as PSG are almost unchallengeable in Ligue 1. The Parisians have a stranglehold on the league due to their financial might. Verratti is a vital cog in their wheel of progress, but while they have dominated France, they have come up short in the Champions League, making the final once.
Verratti has won eight Ligue 1 titles with PSG. He became the first player to achieve the feat, and this year continued to be a vital cog for the team. Christophe Galtier has built a team, tough to beat and is looking for more accolades.
Verratti currently sits on 395 appearances for the club. It is the second most in PSG history. Only Jean-Marc Pilorget has more appearances than the Italian. There is a possibility of outstripping Jean-Marc Pilorget, as his new deal puts him in a position to play more games.
