Despite maintaining a strong lead in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is experiencing increasing criticism, primarily due to the club’s underwhelming performances in the UEFA Champions League. Appointed in the summer of 2023, the Spaniard’s domestic record has been solid, but European results have raised questions.
Champions League troubles spark concern
While PSG have continued to dominate the French league, their continental campaign has been less convincing. After five group-stage matches in the Champions League, the team has managed just one victory. Currently positioned 25th in the standings, PSG are on the brink of elimination from Europe’s elite competition.
With three fixtures remaining, including encounters against RB Salzburg and VfB Stuttgart, there remains an opportunity to salvage their campaign. Expectations are high for PSG to turn their fortunes around in these crucial games.
Luis Enrique’s job secure despite setbacks
Amid the criticism, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has expressed unwavering support for Luis Enrique. Speaking to L’Équipe, Al-Khelaifi dismissed speculation about the manager’s future, calling it “ridiculous” and reaffirming confidence in the team’s long-term strategy.
“I have complete trust in our manager, players, and staff. We won’t let external noise disrupt our goals,” said Al-Khelaifi.
Reports suggest that Luis Enrique has recently signed a contract extension with PSG, though the club has not yet officially announced the agreement. For now, his position remains stable, and the focus will be on guiding PSG through their European challenges while maintaining their dominance in Ligue 1.
