Kylian Mbappe close to Real Madrid move after agreeing personal terms

The other protracted transfer saga of the season looks set to be coming to an end after reports from The Athletic claims that Kylian Mbappe has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old forward has been the subject of transfer speculation involving Madrid for two seasons and it became increasingly clear that this was the year he would sign for the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners.

His current contract at Paris Saint-Germain runs up in June which will make him a free agent. The 10-time French Ligue 1 champions have done all they can to keep Mbappe, including offering him a mega increase on his current salary along with multiple performance-based bonuses, but it appears that he has made his decision to leave.

He was recently voted as Ligue 1’s player of the season for a third straight year (not counting the Covid-19 pandemic year) and he will leave PSG after five seasons, 216 games, 169 goals and 87 assists. He has also won 11 titles in that time frame, while picking up a host of domestic and global individual awards.

Mbappe teased that the fans will know his decision soon on Monday, just before the reports of his personal agreement with Madrid surfaced. “It will be known very soon, it’s almost done,” Mbappe said at the UNFP awards, where he was named the best player in Ligue 1 for the third consecutive season. “My decision is made, yes, almost.

“Why was I so slow? You have to respect all parties. I know that people expected a lot from me. That’s normal. I’m in a hurry too. But it’s not only about me. But here it is, it’s finished right now, there are just some details left.”

Madrid, meanwhile, will be letting go of a few key players in the summer which will clear up room for Mbappe on the squad.

Mbappe to sign for five years

Some reports have claimed that the World Cup winner will sign for Los Merengues for the next five seasons and that his salary will be lesser than what he earned at PSG, which is reported to be around €450,000 a week.

Marca especially, made these claims, stating that it was the outcome of his visit to Madrid last weekend. The forward was seen in Madrid before their last Ligue 1 game and it was rumoured that he came to finalise his move.

Marca have claimed as much, stating that Mbappe will be leaving behind a ton of money at PSG to play for Madrid, which has always been a dream of his.
