Handanovic Scouts Goalkeepers for Inter Milan

Inter Milan, currently boasting the best defensive record across Europe’s top five leagues, is on the hunt for a future replacement for retired goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Despite their defensive prowess, the club is exploring options for a successor, with three goalkeepers reportedly on their radar. Notably, former Inter captain Samir Handanovic, who retired at the end of the 2022-23 season after an illustrious 11-year tenure at San Siro, has been actively involved in scouting goalkeeping talents for the club since winter 2023.

Handanovic’s recent visits to potential goalkeeper prospects have sparked speculation and interest. One such visit was to Monza, where Inter, under the management of Daniele De Rossi, secured a convincing 4-1 victory. Handanovic was among a group of familiar faces, including Walter Samuel and Vincenzo Montella, in attendance. The primary focus of Handanovic’s observation during this match was Monza’s goalkeeper, Michele Di Gregorio, who has also drawn attention from Juventus, as per reports.

Di Gregorio, initially on loan from Inter, officially joined Monza for a fee of approximately €4.15 million in 2022. His current valuation stands around €20 million, indicating the significant interest surrounding his talent. Should Inter pursue Di Gregorio, they may explore potential player exchanges to negotiate a lower transfer fee. Gaetano Oristanio, among others, has been suggested as a potential bargaining chip in Saturday’s reports.

Scouting Beyond Borders: Inter’s Global Goalkeeping Quest

Handanovic’s scouting efforts extend beyond Italy, as demonstrated by his recent trip to Belgium in February. There, he observed Standard Liege goalkeeper Tobe Leysen in action against OH Leuven. This international scouting suggests Inter’s thorough approach to identifying potential goalkeeper recruits from various leagues.

In addition to Leyson, Inter has set its sights on Brazilian goalkeeper Bento, currently playing for Atletico Paranaense. Bento’s price tag is reported to be €15 million, and Inter’s interest indicates a willingness to invest in top talent from different regions. As Handanovic continues his diligent scouting efforts, Inter remains committed to securing a reliable successor to Sommer, ensuring continuity in their defensive solidity for the seasons to come.
