AS Roma to appoint new manager after cub icon’s exit

Daniele De Rossi has been dealt the Xavi Hernandez fate with his sacking from the club of his youth, AS Roma.

The long-standing servant of the capital club took the job after José Mourinho was axed and immediately set to repairing the damage left from the veteran Portuguese’s tenure. He did that in fine fashion but in the end, could not sustain it and had to be axed.

His sacking comes after the first four games of the new season in which AS Roma were unable to win any. The club have also hired Ivan Juric, who has joined on a one-year deal, having coached Genoa, Crotone, Hellas Verona and most recently Torino.

“Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team,” Roma said in a statement. “The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.”

Juric’s first task will be Udinese next weekend where he will have to find a way to get points on board for the Giallorossi in their pursuit of glory this season.

Meanwhile, the Giallorossi could be having a sister club in England soon as their billionaire owner, Dan Friedkin has reignited his plan to buy Everton. This comes after the US billionaire ended his interest in purchasing the financially stricken club in July.

Friedkin, who is the CEO of The Friedkin Group (TFG), is believed to be willing to return to the negotiating table with Everton’s majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, over a potential sale of the club. The Toffees are in a financial rut and are still facing sanctions from the Premier League over alleged PSR breaches spanning several seasons.

Moshiri is looking to part ways with the club and has been talking to quite a number of potential buyers for the better part of 2024. TFG is a longstanding business partner of Moshiri’s and has already lent Everton money a few times in the past to help with their financial issues. Buying the club seems like a way to recoup that debt, but that depends on what the outcome of their fresh talks will be.

Friedkin will be watching, however, as there are talks of John Textor, owner of Crystal Palace, also in talks to buy Everton. Textor may have the upper hand having been in close proximity to Moshiri but Friedkin will bank on his relationship with the Toffee’s majority shareholder to increase his club ownership portfolio and give AS Roma a sister club.
