Defending champions Scottland came from behind to secure a 1–1 draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match that was played at Rufaro Stadium on Friday.
Scottland came into the match looking for their first win of the new season under head coach Norman Mapeza, but they were forced to come from behind after conceding early in the second half.
Ngezi Platinum took the lead in the 47th minute through Farai Madhananga following a goalkeeping error. Scottland goalkeeper Nelson Chadya failed to deal with the ball, which slipped through his legs and into the net.
Mapeza responded by making attacking changes, introducing Khama Billiat and Emmanuel Ziocha in an effort to revive his side’s attack.
Earlier in the second half, Scottland had already made a substitution at the break, with Tymon Machope replaced by Terrence Dzukamanja.
The changes eventually paid off when Ziocha played a quick one-touch pass to Moses Shidolo, who drove into the penalty area before being brought down by a defender. The referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Scottland captain Walter Musona stepped up and calmly converted the penalty in the 71st minute to level the scores.
Both sides continued to create chances in the closing stages, but neither team could find a winning goal as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
